Why can meditation help women over 40 find their true selves?
Here are the steps you need to follow:
1. Taking notice of your thoughts and feelings
2. Realizing that you are not your thoughts and feelings
3. Connecting with your inner wisdom
1. Taking notice of your thoughts and feelings
Close your eyes and take a deep breath in through your nose, letting your stomach expand. As you exhale through your mouth, release any tension in your body. Continue breathing deeply and slowly for a few minutes, letting your mind focus on the rise and fall of your breath. Once you’re feeling relaxed and centered, begin to notice the thoughts running through your mind. Don’t judge or try to control your thoughts, just let them come and go as they please. Observe each thought as it arises, then let it go and return your focus to your breath. After a few minutes, you may start to notice a more spacious awareness beneath the thoughts and feelings. This is your true self, the part of you that is always at peace, no matter what is happening in your life. Spend a few minutes resting in this awareness, then slowly open your eyes and return to your day.
You may find that some of your thoughts are repetitive, or that you keep coming back to certain worry or concern. That’s OK, just notice it and let it go. The more you practice this, the more you will be able to find that spacious awareness beneath the thoughts and feelings. Over time, you may also find that your thoughts and feelings start to change. You may notice that you worry less, or that you are more able to let go of things that used to bother you. This is the power of mindfulness: by simply taking notice of your thoughts and feelings, you can start to change them, and find more peace and happiness in your life.
2. Realizing that you are not your thoughts and feelings
In order to realize that you are not your thoughts and feelings, it is important to first understand where your thoughts and feelings come from. Thoughts and feelings are created in the moment, based on your current beliefs and the story you are telling yourself in that moment. However, underneath the ebb and flow of thoughts and feelings is your inner wisdom, which is separate from the story in your head and the emotions you are feeling. By meditating and focusing on your inner wisdom, you can begin to see that you are not your thoughts and feelings, but rather the observer of them. This can be a liberating experience, as it allows you to see that you are not defined by your past mistakes or your current circumstances. Instead, you are the creator of your own life, and you have the power to choose how you want to show up in the world.
The first step to realizing that you are not your thoughts and feelings is to become aware of them. Pay attention to the thoughts that are running through your head throughout the day, and notice the emotions that you are feeling. Once you become aware of them, you can begin to see that they are just thoughts and feelings, and they are not who you are. The next step is to start observing your thoughts and feelings, without judgment. This can be a difficult task, as our natural tendency is to judge everything that we feel and think. However, it is important to remember that thoughts and feelings are just thoughts and feelings, and they do not define you as a person. By observing them without judgment, you can begin to see that they are just transient states that come and go. Finally, it is important to detach from your thoughts and feelings. This does not mean that you should try to suppress them or push them away. Instead, it means that you should allow them to be there without getting caught up in them. See them as if they were clouds passing through the sky. They are there for a moment and then they are gone. You are the sky, and you are always there, no matter what thoughts or feelings are passing through.
3. Connecting with your inner wisdom
The third step in the meditation is to focus on your breath and bring yourself into the present moment. Take a deep breath in, hold it for four counts, and then release it slowly. Repeat this a few times, focusing on the sensation of your breath moving in and out of your body. Once you are feeling calm and centered, you can begin to explore the thoughts and emotions that are arising for you in the present moment. Notice what you are thinking and feeling, without judgment or attachment. Simply observe and allow whatever arises to be as it is.
If you find your mind wandering, simply bring your attention back to your breath. The goal is not to clear your mind of all thoughts, but rather to become more aware of your thoughts and emotions, without getting caught up in them. By practicing this non-judgmental awareness, you will begin to connect with your inner wisdom. This wisdom is always available to you, but it can be obscured by the noise of your thoughts and emotions. When you connect with your inner wisdom, you will find that it is always calm and peaceful, no matter what is happening on the surface.

Meditation can be a powerful tool to help women over 40 connect with their true selves and find their purpose in life. If you’re struggling to find your place, give meditation a try. It could just be the thing you need to help you transform your life.
